Having searched in vain for a reasonably-priced hotel or B&B in York itself, I took what I thought was a second best option, a B&B in a National Trust property outside York. What a pleasant surprise - Beningborough Hall Home Farm B&B was an absolute delight: a huge, beautifully furnished bedroom; private entrance; lovely, friendly hosts; beautiful surroundings; and a chance to stock up on the wide range of delicious food - including their own beef - in their farm shop. Oh, and Beningborough Hall at the other end of the footpath. Well, I'm converted - I'll check the National Trust B&Bs out first in future! Many thanks”
